How to Get a Metal Fabrication Quote

What Do I Need to Get a Metal Fabrication Quote?

Send a dimensioned drawing or sketch, the material and thickness, the quantity, the finish such as powder coat or galvanizing, your deadline, and whether you need delivery or installation. Photos of where it will go help. The clearer the package, the closer the quotes will be to each other and the fewer surprises later.

The Quote Package

  1. Drawing: a CAD file (DXF or STEP) for production parts, or a clear sketch with dimensions for one-offs.
  2. Material: type and thickness, or tell the shop what the part must do and ask for advice.
  3. Quantity: setup is spread over the batch, so quantity matters a lot.
  4. Tolerances: only as tight as you truly need.
  5. Finish: paint, powder coat, galvanizing or raw.
  6. Logistics: deadline, delivery and installation.
