Most shop disputes come from something nobody put in writing: a price that grew, a part that was not what you expected, a warranty that turned out shorter than you thought. Take these questions to every tire shop you talk to, compare the answers side by side, and keep the important ones on paper.
Typical turnaround: same day, often in under 2 hours. Ask for a realistic date on your specific job.
The Questions
- What is the out-the-door price with mounting, balancing, valve stems and disposal?
- Is an alignment needed, and what does it cost?
- What is the manufacture date on these tires?
- Is there a road-hazard warranty, and is rotation included?
- Can this tire be repaired, or does it need replacing?
Tips
- Compare out-the-door prices, not tire prices alone.
- The DOT code on the sidewall ends in the week and year the tire was made.
- Many used tires are worth checking closely for age and repairs before you buy.
Before You Approve the Work
- Get the total price, the scope, the parts or materials and the completion date in writing.
- Ask how extra work will be approved if the job grows.
- Check that the business name on the paperwork matches the one you researched.
- Pay by credit card where possible, which can give you dispute rights.
