Before You Hire

Typical turnaround is 1–6 weeks depending on the job. Ask:

• Can I get a written quote with material, labor, finish and delivery listed separately?
• What do you need from me: drawing, sketch, photos or measurements?
• Are your welders certified, for example to an AWS code, for this kind of work?
• What is your shop rate and your minimum charge?
• What is the lead time, and what could delay it?

Tips

• A dimensioned drawing gets a far more accurate quote than a verbal description.
• Quote the same drawing, material and finish with every shop.
• Check permit and code needs for railings and stairs with your local building department.

Getting several quotes? Line them up in the quote comparison tool and read what to check on an estimate before you approve work.
